We have been tackling the new materials on a per-level style basis, and the plan is to roll out these new level styles piecemeal as soon as they are done. I've been working with the eminent artist Stan Brown on new level styles (and implicitly) integrating what I call Vaguely Physically Based Rendering (VPBR) into the game, and I'm happy to announce that the first new level style featuring said VPBR materials is imminent.
